I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! I was recently featured in Canadian Healthcare Technology magazine for the work my team and I have been doing with Alberta Health Services (AHS). This article focuses on how we’ve been tackling the complex challenges of healthcare, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, by using Intelligent Automation (IA).
Alberta Health Services is one of the largest healthcare systems in Canada, responsible for serving 4.7 million Albertans. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, AHS, like many organizations, needed to find ways to manage increased demand while maintaining high-quality patient care. With over 127,000 staff, the scale was immense, and the stakes were high. That’s when my team at the Intelligent Automation division stepped in to help.
Why Automation is Key to Healthcare’s Future
The article highlights how automation has become a crucial tool for streamlining healthcare operations. From automating administrative tasks to processing large volumes of data, we’ve been working to make healthcare systems more efficient and responsive. It’s not just about saving time—it’s about empowering healthcare professionals to focus more on what truly matters: patient care.
AHS adopted automation tools to handle time-consuming tasks like sending out patient communication letters, processing appointment reminders, cancellations, and other administrative duties. These tasks, while essential, can eat up a lot of time that could otherwise be spent on more critical healthcare operations. By automating them, we’ve helped reduce the workload on frontline staff and allowed them to redirect their focus on delivering better patient care.
Our Award-Winning Efforts
Earlier this year, AHS was honored with the prestigious SS&C Blue Prism Legend Award in New York City. Receiving this award was a proud moment for me and my team. It recognized the groundbreaking work we’ve been doing in integrating advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and process automation technologies into healthcare. The award, which is like the “Hollywood Walk of Fame” for automation, highlights organizations that are true agents of change. It’s inspiring to know that our work has been acknowledged on such a global scale.
In the article, they also discuss how our automation solutions have helped AHS reduce operational costs and increase efficiency, which is vital when managing a healthcare system as large and complex as AHS. Automating these processes has not only cut costs but has also improved service delivery speed and accuracy, which ultimately benefits patients and healthcare workers alike.
Moving Forward: What’s Next for Healthcare Automation?
The journey doesn’t stop here. The recognition we’ve received for our work has only fueled our passion for innovation. We’re currently focusing on scaling our automation efforts even further across different departments within AHS. Whether it’s server management, patient scheduling, or internal audits, the potential for automation to improve healthcare delivery is limitless.
We’ve also been working closely with AHS’s Automation Steering & Oversight Committee (ASOOC), which ensures governance and sustainability of automation initiatives across the organization. A big part of our success has been appointing “Automation Champions” within each department. These individuals help identify areas where automation can be applied and work closely with department leaders to implement these solutions. Their input and leadership have been crucial in ensuring that the automation journey we’re on is both scalable and impactful.
Final Thoughts
I’m incredibly proud of the work my team and I have done with AHS, and I’m honored to have been recognized in Canadian Healthcare Technology. The article is a reminder of the progress we’ve made and the potential that lies ahead for healthcare automation. By leveraging the power of technology, we’re not just fixing problems—we’re building a more agile, efficient, and resilient healthcare system for the future.
Thank you for reading, and stay tuned for more updates as we continue to innovate and transform healthcare!
